Class Descriptions

Advanced Yoga focuses on back bends, inversions, twists, as well as refining standing poses using the principles of proper alignment. Students must have a strong command of yoga poses. Drop-ins with approval only.

Beginner I Yoga is a class for those new to yoga. This class will introduce the fundamentals of yoga, showing how yoga can increase strength, balance and flexibility. Exploration of basic standing and seated postures, breathing and relaxation techniques.

Beginner II Yoga is a continuation of Beginner I.  In this class endurance and refining the poses will be the focus.  Students will learn simple back bending poses and shoulder stand.

Deep Stretch Yoga is a quiet practice that targets the deeper tissues that lie beneath the muscle layer. These deep tissues tend to "shrink wrap" our joints, blood vessels and nerves as they injure or age. This deep stretch class will improve joint flexibility, re-lubricate the joints, and foster a quiet, meditative state. This is the perfect complement to a more active yoga practice. Open to everyone.

Gentle Flow This is a class for everyone. Explore basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. The gentle pace will allow time for you to immerse yourself in poses, enjoying the deep stretching and strengthening that is encouraged within this practice. Some breathing techniques and meditation will be introduced, wonderful for stress relief and overall well being.

Gentle/Restorative Yoga Level I is a slower paced class with an emphasis on de-stressing and building a foundation of strength, flexibility and balance. It is for those seeking a quieter environment or those with physical challenges. Taught in a comfortable, gentle way with relaxation, breathing awareness and other stress reduction techniques.

Gentle/Restorative Yoga Level II class for those students who have previously completed a Gentle/Restorative class at TYC. Using the principles of proper alignment, this class is designed to improve flexibility, balance, learn relaxation techniques for tight muscles and stress, target body issues, as well as learn more intense and difficult yoga postures which make the student feel good both physically and mentally. Students will leave each class feeling rejuvenated and relaxed!

Intermediate Yoga classes focus on backbends and inversion poses with the major focus being headstand, shoulder stand, and handstand prep.  Student MUST have a strong yoga practice and full understanding of the basic asanas. Students must have permission to attend this class.

Mixed Levels and Vinyasa Flow Students will enjoy joining breath to movement in a dynamic meditation in motion. This style uses Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) to move smoothly from one yoga pose to another. Some prior experience with Sun Salutation will be helpful. Expect to leave the class refreshed and energized.

Yoga Flow This class is comprised of warm ups, breathing techniques and creative sequences for a fun and energizing class.  The students will be encouraged to move at their own pace with their breath as their guide. Students should have completed 2 sessions of Beginner I so they can receive the benefits of being in each pose and enjoy the nature of the class.
